Tricia Niemack of Shelton has been awarded the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation scholarship and will be recognized at the annual convention held in Kearney on Oct. 10-11.
Niemack completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and will graduate in May 2003 from UNK with a Master in Special Education specializing in speech/language pathology.
Two scholarships in two years have been awarded to UNK students from the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation. This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding graduate student in speech/language pathology and audiology. Graduate students from UNK, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Nebraska Omaha, are eligible to apply. Awards are based on GPA, application materials, professional activities and faculty recommendations.
“The Communication Disorders faculty is particularly pleased since our students are competing with students from the other programs in the state,” said Kenya Taylor, Associate Professor and Department Chair of Communication Disorders.
The scholarship is presented each October at the annual convention of the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This is a monetary award in which the student can spend the scholarship in any way to pursue professional goals.
Last year’s recipient was also a UNK graduate student, Jennifer Witte who graduated in May 2002. Witte is now employed as a speech/language pathologist in Sydney Public schools.
