The University of Nebraska at Kearney Construction Management Program received the edu.de 2001 Cooperation Prize from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for their cooperation with the University of Rostock. UNK was chosen as one of the three prize-winners from a field of 22. Each winner received a prize of $20,000 to further the development of the program. The award recognizes highly effective, innovative programs of study abroad in cooperation with German institutions of higher education. By recognizing these model programs, DAAD hopes to inspire other universities to develop new innovative cooperative relationships with universities in Germany.
The awards were presented on May 30 at the Academy of Natural and Social Sciences in Philadelphia, PA. Jerry Fox, director of International Education at UNK, received the award on behalf of the Construction Management Program.
Fox said, “The Cooperative prize recognizes our efforts to provide study opportunities that are beyond ordinary study abroad programs. The prize also honors the cooperative efforts and the hard work of Dr. Ken Larson, UNK, and Dr. Georg Mainka, Rostock University.” The UNK Construction Management Program students were recently involved in construction of the first wood structures in northern Germany. The Construction Management Program at UNK has grown from 10 to 122 majors since 1991 and boasts 100% placement of graduates.
