The University of Nebraska at Kearney Geography Club and Department of Geography will host two presentations by Dr. John Campbell, Emeritus Professor of Geography of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, on February 18.
At 4 p.m. in Copeland Hall room 131, Dr. Campbell will present “Cartogarbage” which suggests some rules that should be kept in mind as maps are produced so that the results will be accurate and easy to interpret.
At 7:30 p.m. in Copeland Hall room 142, he will present “Geographic Technologies” which describes the basic workings of Geographic Information Systems(GIS) and Global Positioning Systems(GPS), as well as some of the places to which these technologies can be used.
Dr. Campbell’s academic career includes research and teaching at the university level in the areas of cartography, geographic information systems, economic geography, industrial location, and conservation of natural resources. From 1974 through his retirement in 1996, he served on the Geography faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He currently is an adjunct professor of Geography at the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque and resides in Santa Fe, NM.
The presentations are free and open to the public and are funded by UPFF.
