Eight high ability high school students from across Nebraska are attending Tech Camp at the University of Nebraska at Kearney this week.

Dr. Ken Messersmith, UNK’s Tech Camp director, said, ” This camp is designed to allow students to gain experience through doing activities that people who work in technology actually do. The camp activities will also allow campers to talk to the people who work in technology-related jobs and get first-hand information directly from the source.”

At the camp, students will be working on the development of intelligent robots in the mornings and visiting different Kearney locations that use high level technology in the afternoon. Campers will visit the City/County Law Enforcement Center, the Archway Monument, ESU #10, the Buckle and various other locations.

On Saturday, June 12, the campers’ parents and families will be invited for a poster session where campers will demonstrate what they did during the week. The camp activities will close with a noon luncheon and awards ceremony.

To be accepted into the Tech Camp, students had to have an interest in technology and must have completed their sophomore or junior year of high school with high academic standing.
