Author of the book, Klan-Destine Relationships, Daryl Davis will give a presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The talk, which is free and open to the public, is one in a series of events being held on the campus in honor of African American History Month. The presentation will take place in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room.
Over the past 10 years, Davis has been exploring racism and gathering information for his book. During this time, he set up surprise meetings with Ku Klux Klan members who were unaware of his skin color and attended KKK rallies. He eventually began to receive robes and hoods from Klan members who came to him to withdraw their beliefs.
Davis speaks to his audience about the involvement he had with the Ku Klux Klan as an African American. He challenges them to confront their own prejudices and overcome their fears.
Davis has received acclaim for his book along with his work in race relations. He has been featured on CNN, CNBC and Good Morning America.
Davis earned his bachelor of music degree from Howard University. He performs regularly as an accomplished blues and R&B musician with his own Daryl Davis Band. He has toured with Muddy Water’s Legendary Blues Band and Chuck Berry, among others.
