Viewers will travel back 2,000 years to Bethlehem during the new planetarium show “The Christmas Star” at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
“We will use our knowledge of astronomy and the clues from the Gospels to try to pinpoint the Star of Bethlehem,” said Dr. Jose Mena-Werth, UNK professor of physics and physical science and planetarium director. “Then we will employ the magic of the planetarium to travel back 2,000 years and to Bethlehem to see for ourselves what occurred in those ancient night skies.”
The show, which will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, will begin at 7 p.m., and will last approximately 35 minutes. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. An encore show will be presented at 8 p.m. if there is an overflow crowd.
The shows are free and open to the public, but donations of dry or canned foods for the local food pantry will be accepted.
Reservations are not made for public shows. Also, no food or drinks are allowed inside of the planetarium; individuals will not be admitted once a show has started, nor will they be readmitted if they leave during the show. Children must be five years of age or older to attend.
