UNK- The annual Criminal Justice Conference at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is scheduled for April 10. The event will feature speakers from across the nation whose focuses range from the war on drugs to sex offender notification.
Opening the conference at 8:30 a.m. will be the keynote speaker, Joseph C. Peters, the deputy director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in Washington, D.C. Following the keynote address, Dr. Tom Osborne will address the conference with his speech, “Delinquency Prevention in Today’s Society.” Other speakers included in the conference are Thomas J. Monaghan from the District of Nebraska in the United States Department of Justice; Jimmy Wilson, Sr., a retired Omaha homicide police officer; and Jon Kraai, a sergeant in the Nebraska State Patrol.
“This conference is geared toward those in the criminal justice field, but the number of different conferences provide appeal to a variety of audiences,” said Jim Gilbert, coordinator of the conference.
The Criminal Justice Conference begins at 8:20 a.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room. Admission is free to all UNK faculty, staff and students, and general public admission is $5.
