UNK- Health care reform is the focus of a presentation set for 5:15 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 30) at the Gosper County Senior Center, 406 Ripley St., in Elwood.
University of Nebraska at Kearney students taking a health care economics class taught by Dr. Allan Jenkins, UNK economics professor, have researched various aspects of the subject, and then wrote papers based on the research. Each student has prepared segments of the presentation based on that research, and three students from the class will be making the Tuesday night presentation, one in a series of presentations being given at sites across Central Nebraska. The presentation is free and open to the public.
“Civil discussion of the issue will follow the presentation,” Dr. Jenkins said. “This is a nonpartisan discussion of the current situation with some comparison with health care in other countries. The presentation presents historical information on the drivers of increasing health care costs and is not attacking nor supporting any individual health care reform plan.”
Of the 20 students in the class, three will make the presentation Tuesday. Other students will have an opportunity to be presenters at future presentations, Dr. Jenkins said. Those presenting Tuesday in Elwood will be Britney Zeller, Exercise Science major from Elwood, Nate Reicks, Business Administration/Economics major from McCook, and Ayush Uprety, Finance/Economics major from Kathmandu, Nepal.
