UNK– A Black Hills State University voice, opera and music education professor will present a recital and a master class on Thursday and Friday, April 15 and 16, respectively, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Dr. Nancy Ruehle-Roberts, a soprano, will give a Concerts-on-the-Platte performance Thursday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall. On Friday, she will present a master class focusing on German romantic song from 2:30-3:30 p.m. for UNK voice students. The master class will take place in the Fine Arts Building, Room 264. Both the concert and the master class are free and open to the public.
In the Concerts-on-the-Platte performance, Dr. Ruehle-Roberts will present an eight-song cycle titled, “Frauenliebe und Leben: A Woman’s Life and Love,” a lecture recital on Robert Schumann’s monumental song cycle. She will be accompanied by Mona Hauck of Spearfish, S.D., on piano. Hauck is a staff accompanist in the Department of Music at Black Hills State University.
According to Dr. Sharon Campbell, UNK assistant professor of voice, the eight-song cycle is “…a much loved monument of the repertoire for female voices. This lecture recital provides an exciting opportunity to examine it in its entirety.”
Dr. Ruehle-Roberts earned a bachelor’s degree in voice from William Jewell College, a master’s in music from Indiana University and a DMA in voice from the University of Kansas. She has performed in several operas, musicals and plays including her most recent performance in “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at the Matthews Opera House in Spearfish, S.D.
