UNK- A University of Nebraska at Kearney sophomore from Plattsmouth took top honors in Informative Speaking at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Championship competition at Doane College in Crete last weekend.
Robert Friedman of Plattsmouth took first place in the Informative Speaking competition. It was the second consecutive year for UNK to win the event at the state championship competition. Cassie Larreau, a Kearney sophomore, finished second in Communication Analysis, and freshman James Selders from LaVista, finished fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking.
“Our state championship is the toughest in the nation,” said Rachelle Kamrath, UNK director of Forensics. “If you can do well here, you can do well on the national level.”
“While no other events advanced to the final found of competition, preliminary ballots reported an outstanding performance by everyone on the team,” Kamrath said.
Other UNK team members competing included: Brooke Alstrom, a Rock County High School graduate from Bassett;Emily Webb, a Centura High School graduate from Dannebrog; and Clayton Friedeman and Trevor Woodward, both fromRaymond. All four are freshmen on the team. The UNK team placed fourth out of the nine teams in the competition.
