Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society with more than half a million members and 458 collegiate chapters across five continents, was recently chartered at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The International Conference and Annual Meeting of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) was the site of the initiation of the UNK chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. The event was held in Paris, France, and more than 140 business school deans and administrators from around the world attended the meeting, including Dr. Bruce Forster, dean of the UNK College of Business and Technology; Dr. Tim Burkink, UNK associate dean of the business college; and Dr. Galen Hadley, emeritus dean of the UNK business college.

This spring, the UNK College of Business and Technology was one of only 12 schools internationally to receive AACSB accreditation. Only 10 percent of all business schools in the world have earned AACSB accreditation.

Beta Gamma Sigma President Sara Freedman said of the initiation that took place in Paris: “It was a wonderful opportunity to honor those business schools that earn AACSB accreditation and establish a chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma on their campuses. The honor society’s presence signifies the value that business schools place on recognizing academic excellence.”
