LINCOLN – James Lester, event and moving staff in facilities management and planning, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDOS award Dec. 4.
KUDOS awards recognize university staff for their professional expertise, service and “superior dedication” to UNK and University of Nebraska. It is the university’s top staff award.
Lester has been a member of the UNK staff for more than 14 years, with his current primary responsibilities in the Nebraskan Student Union.
His responsibilities include setting up and tearing down staging, furniture, technology and audio/visual equipment for a variety of events, including conferences, receptions and formal dinners.
He has also worked with architects and project managers during the major renovation of the student union. In addition, he assists the landscaping and grounds team with exterior maintenance and the custodial team with general upkeep when the need arises.
Lester was recognized for his reliability, loyalty, attention to detail and positive and professional interactions with others.
“He is extremely dedicated and knowledgeable, and I don’t believe there is anyone who could perform these tasks better,” said Director of Facilities Lee McQueen.
In his 14 years at UNK, Lester has never called in sick or missed a day of work that wasn’t planned.
“UNK is lucky to have him on its team,” said Facilities Business Manager Sharie Waller.
Lester was recognized and given the KUDOS award at the Board of Regents meeting, which was attended by UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen, NU President Hank Bounds and friend Tanya Gimeson.
