UNK mobile app gets upgrade

UNK Mobile App 1KEARNEY – University of Nebraska at Kearney’s mobile app has been moved to a new vendor, improving the content and experience on the application. Users of the app will notice new features including a link to Canvas, and better links to UNK’s primary social media channels, photos and course catalog.

The improvement came following the decision to transition from Blackboard to the Canvas course learning module, with the transfer of UNK’s original mobile app to Modo Labs. The new app did not cost any additional resources, including development.

To find the mobile app, go to your app store or wherever you typically download your Apple or Android apps, and search for “UNK” or “UNK Mobile.” Users who already had the previous app installed do not need to do anything – the app will update itself the next time you use it. Different apps exist for devices including tablets/iPads.

Deb Schroeder, assistant vice president and chief information officer at UNK, said the app is important technology primarily for prospective and current students who choose apps to stay connected. It also helps staff/faculty, alumni and campus visitors find easy access to maps, phone directory, events and news, on any mobile device.

“State-of-the-art mobile technology is important, and the new, improved app does a better job of presenting information mobile users are seeking,” she said. “The upgrade is an important time to remind UNK audiences that this resource is available for them, for free.”
