Documentary on Rachel Carson’s ‘Silent Spring’ featured at UNK April 10

KEARNEY – A documentary film about the book, “Silent Spring,” will be featured at the University of Nebraska at Kearney April 10.

Rachel Carson’s book, “Silent Spring,” sparked the environmental movement with its publication in 1962.

The PBS film explores the life and writings of Carson and the politics of the “Silent Spring” era.

A panel of historians and scientists will discuss the film during a roundtable discussion. Panelists are David Vail, assistant professor of history; Linda Van Ingen, history professor; Allen Thomas, assistant professor of chemistry; Jinny Turman, assistant professor of history; and Letty Reichart, associate professor of biology.

The film showing and panel discussion will be at 6:30 p.m. in Copeland Hall room 142. The event is open to the public.

The film is being presented by Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, Sigma Xi: The Science Research Society, and The Women’s and Gender Studies Triota Student Organization.
