KEARNEY – University of Nebraska at Kearney students can now schedule appointments online for the Writing Center in the Learning Commons.

“Students can now schedule appointments for the Writing Center on their own, any time, night or day,” said Patrick Hargon, assistant director of the Learning Commons. “They don’t have to wait for the Learning Commons to be open.”

The Learning Commons is a collaboration between the Calvin T. Ryan Library and the Division of Student Affairs. A student-centered space, the Learning Commons targets the needs of students wanting to improve their understanding of course material through the development of stronger learning skills.

Students go to the learning center individually or in groups to access the library’s print and electronic collections, use technology for research and coursework, and access course and writing assistance.

The Writing Center allows students to make appointments to receive assistance with writing projects at any point in the writing process.

Previously, students were only able to schedule appointments at the Writing Center by phone or email.

After scheduling an appointment online, students will also receive reminders via text message.

  1. It is great that Writing Center in the Learning Commons is now flexible. This will be very helpful for students who have schedule that does not match with the Writing Center. Now, more students will have the opportunity to go to this center.
