In light of the tragic events of the March 11 tsunami and earthquake in Japan, the Japanese Association at Kearney (JAK) would like to invite the UNK campus and Kearney community to:

Sakura:  Hope for Japan
When?  Sunday, April 17th
What Time?   5:00-8:00 PM
Where?  UNK Health and Sports Building, Cushing Coliseum Fieldhouse (indoor track area)

Japanese students will be providing authentic Japanese food and demonstrating some aspects of Japanese culture.  The main focus of the event will be to encourage victims of the disaster by:  folding paper cranes (symbols of health and long life), taping video letters for victims (which will be subtitled in Japanese by our students), and writing letters to victims

These items will be sent directly to Japan through our students’ friends to victims of the disaster.

In addition, the American Red Cross will have a representative in attendance to officially accept the donation of all money collected by students for disaster relief.

The Japanese Association wishes to thank all members of the UNK campus and Kearney community for their generous support of the Japanese people throughout this hard time, and looks forward to being able to say “Thank you” in person to many of you on Sunday at this special event.
