UNK– The University of Nebraska at Kearney air will smell sweet with cotton candy as the student Kearney’val begins
Wednesday, Sept 1.

“We normally have this event on the opening week of fall semester, but we wanted to build more interest in the Student Organization Fair,” said Gail Sims, UNK Residential and Greek Life assistant director. “We want to do everything we can to engage students in activities on campus.”

In the past the Kearney’val was a part of Blue and Gold Week activities, but this year it is being held on the same day as the Student Organization Fair. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) will hold the Kearney’val from 2-6 p.m. on the green between the Nebraskan Student Union and the Cope Fountain.

According to Sims, more than 500 students took part in the games and concessions offered at the Kearney’val last year. This year, the  Kearney’val will include Adrenaline Rush, a giant inflatable obstacle course, K-2 Challenge, an inflatable climbing course, a Velcro wall and a pedestal joust. Students will also be treated to complementary cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones.

“I think students can expect to have fun competing against friends and roommates in the challenges and activities that we will have set up,” Sims said. RHA has been hosting an event like Kearney’val for the last 10 years on the UNK campus.
