Top UNK Music Students Featured in Honors Recital Sunday

UNK- The Honors Music Convocation for the University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Music and Performing Arts is set for Sunday, May 3. 
 
The program will begin at 3 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
 
The participating student performers are nominated by faculty members. The nominations are then reviewed by a selection committee, which extends invitations to perform. There will be a reception after the recital. The reception will be hosted by members of the UNK student chapter of the Nebraska Music Educators National Conference. The student members will also serve as stage crew for the convocation.
 
Students selected to perform in the Honors Music Convocation are listed below, alphabetically by hometown and country: 
 
Dalton-
Blake Thompson, a junior. Thompson, a student of Dr. Andrew White, will perform “Wonderful” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” He will also duet with Kassie Sabah on “Stud and a Babe” from “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.” 
 
Fullerton-
Kalie Wetovick, a senior. Wetovick, a student of Dr. Ting-Lan Chen, will perform “Duo Pour Deux Violons.”
 
Grand Island-
Patrick York, a junior. York, a student of Dr. Andrew White, will perform “Ach so Fromm” from “Martha.” This celebrated aria is most familiar in the Italian translation sung by Caruso.
 
Kearney-
Paul Niedbalski, a senior. Niedbalski, a student of Dr. Michael Forbes, will perform “Deux dances.” The piece is from the standard trombone repertoire written in the 1950’s by Jean-Michel Defaye. 

Kearney-
Kassie Sabah, a junior. Sabah, a student of Dr. Sharon Campbell, will perform “Stud and a Babe,” from “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.”
 
JAPAN-

           Kagoshima-
Ayae Mori, a senior. Mori, a student of Dr. Nathan Buckner, will perform “Sonata No. 4 in C Major, K 521” by                 Mozart. Mozart was a major contributor to the piano four-hand literature in his time. 
 
       Kyoto-
Ayaka Kondo, a senior. Kondo, a student of Dr. James Cook, will perform “Sonata No. 4 in C Major, K 521” by Mozart,         and “Fantasy in F Minor, D 940” by Schubert. Mozart and Schubert were each major contributors to the piano four-hand literature         for their respective periods.   
 
       Shizuoka-
Chihiro Sugano, a junior. Sugano, a student of Dr. Nathan Buckner, will perform “Windy Whispers” by UNK student         Robert Roth of Comstock, and “Fantasy in F Minor, D 940” by Schubert. Mozart and Schubert were each major contributors to         the piano four-hand literature for their respective periods. Roth is a UNK freshman composition major.
