HERMAN BOONE TO SPEAK AT UNK

Real life hero of Remember the Titans, Herman Boone, will be speaking at UNK on March 29 at 7 p.m. in the Health and Sports Center. Boone, who coached the football team at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria,VA, when racial tensions ran high, was remarkably able to unify the players and form a team whose common vision was to respect each other and win football games. At the same time, he helped the small Virginian community put aside prejudice and intolerance as they joined together to support their children. Boone’s inspirational story was captured in the 2000 Disney Film, Remember the Titans, starring Denzel Washington.

“Anyone who has seen the movie will want to go and hear Boone speak. He has a very inspirational story that students can learn from. His experience shows that he didn’t back down when he faced adversity and he overcame the obstacles,” said Karla Falk, Nebraskan Student Union coordinator.

Admission to the program is free with a valid UNK I.D. The program is also open to the public. Tickets are $4 at the door and $2 in advance. To purchase tickets in advance please call (308) 865-8523.
