Five high ability high school students are attending the Politics and Popular Culture Camp at University of Nebraska at Kearney this week.
According to Dr. Joan Blauwkamp, UNK’s political science camp director, “The camp is organized around a series of seminar discussions about the political messages presented in popular culture, and their impact on public attitudes and actions.”
At the camp, students will participate in discussions concerning the affects popular culture has on society. Students will attend seminars discussing the FCC, the First Amendment and the impact of popular culture media on racial stereotypes.
To be accepted into the camp, students had to have a sophomore, junior, or senior status with good academic credentials, and have an interest in popular culture and politics.
