An eight-person evaluation team representing the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools will be on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus Monday – Wednesday, April 19-21, according to Dr. Ken Nikels, UNK dean of Graduate Studies and Research.
“The team will meet with faculty, staff, students and administrators over the three-day visit,” Dean Nikels said. “An institutional self-study has been distributed to all academic department chairs and administrative offices and is available in the library.”
Three open forums have been scheduled for Tuesday, April 20. The forums include: 3:30 p.m. in Copeland Hall, Room 130, for faculty; 11:15 a.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union, Room 310, for staff; and the Nebraskan Student Union, Room 312, for students.
“We have invited members of the UNK faculty, staff and administration to participate as fully as possible in the open forums and various meeting that are being scheduled within the colleges and other units,” Dr. Nikels said.
Members of the evaluation team, and the areas they are assigned to review, include:
– Dr. Joel Anderson (team chair), chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, governance, including boards and system administration, athletics and any concerns expressed by members of the last review team in 1994;
– Dr. John Byrd, executive vice president, University of Evansville, Ind., student services, enrollment management, College of Education;
– Dr. Michelle Johnston, dean of Education and Human Services, Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich., faculty/staff profile, including qualifications and diversity, Graduate Studies and Research;
– Dr. Jack Robinson, special assistant to the president, Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Okla., assessment, College of Natural and Social Sciences;
– Dr. Suzanne Selig, director, Health Care Department, University of Michigan-Flint, faculty governance, faculty evaluation, promotion/tenure, library;
– Dr. Ronald Wasserstein, vice president of Academic Affairs, Washburn University, Wichita, Kan., distance learning, Honors Program, General Studies; and
– Dr. Robert Zimmerman, professor of economics at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, finance and budgeting, planning, College of Business and Technology.
Dr. Karen Boubel, professor of music and former vice president of Academic Affairs at Minnesota State University in Mankato, was to evaluate distance learning and the College of Fine Arts and Humanities. However, she is ill and will not be able to be in Kearney.
