Music faculty and their guests are set to take the stage for the fifth annual Concert-on-the-Platte Series which opens Monday, Feb. 2, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Dr. Nathan Buckner, pianist, will open the series at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall with Beethoven’s “Thirty-Three Variations on a Waltz,” which was originally composed by Diabelli, and a sonata by Franz Schubert.
“Many pianists regard Beethoven’s Diabelli variations as the greatest work in the solo piano literature,” Dr. Buckner said. Dr. Buckner holds performance degrees from the Juilliard School of Music, Indiana University and the University of Maryland. Concerts-on-the-Platte is an on-going series of recitals featuring performances by UNK faculty members and guests of the Department of Music and Performing Arts.
“The series exists to provide examples of professional recitals for our music majors as well as the community at large,” Dr. Buckner said. The recitals are free and open to the public.
