Two residence halls on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus will host joint open houses on Saturday, Oct. 1, in conjunction with homecoming.
The two halls, Case and Ludden, are scheduled for demolition to make way for new, suite-style residence halls. Construction on the suite-style halls is scheduled for spring.
The open houses, set for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., are open to the general public as well as the campus community.
According to Anita Kucera, associate director of Residential & Greek Life, the open houses are scheduled for Homecoming Week to give the largest number of people the opportunity to view the halls.
“These halls might be gone by spring, ” Kucera said. “We would like to give everyone one last chance to walk through and enjoy the buildings before they’re gone. We hope alumni will attend the open houses.”
The open houses will feature historical displays, and refreshments will be served. Among the historical items on display will be photographs, annuals, trophies and other memorabilia.
In addition to memorabilia, there will be information about Eva J. Case, the Nebraska educator for whom Case Hall was named at its construction in 1930, and Carrie E. Ludden, Ludden Hall’s namesake. Ludden was the longest serving UNK faculty member with a tenure of 48 years.
The open houses are hosted by each hall as well as the UNK Office of Residential & Greek Life.
