The first all-female team to ever win the CBS show “The Amazing Race” will share their experiences on the show and in the medical field during a 2 p.m. presentation Friday, Oct. 7, on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.
To win “The Amazing Race,” the two logged more than 32,000 miles, traveling to four continents, 10 countries and 30 cities in just three weeks.
Drs. Nat Strand and Kat Chang, both anesthesiologists, will be speaking in Copeland Hall, Room 142. Their presentation, which is being hosted on the campus by the UNK Health Science Club, is free and open to the public.
While the race was a challenge for both participants, Dr. Strand had an additional challenge. She is a Type 1 diabetic. During the presentation on the campus, Dr. Strand will address some of the issues she faced as a diabetic. She will allow time for questions and answers. Dr. Strand has family ties to the Minden community.
Not surprisingly, when asked “What scares you most about traveling?,” Dr. Strand replied, “Not having access to medical care.”
Dr. Strand, who lives in Santa Monica, is currently an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the University of Southern California Medical School in Los Angeles, and Dr. Chang is practicing anesthesiologist in the Los Angeles area.
