The College of Business and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is bringing in two high profile business executives to the campus today and next Tuesday to meet, and network with students and faculty.
Today, John Munn, director of the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance met with students in Advanced Tax Accounting and Agricultural Finance. In the afternoon, he will meet with students taking the Financial Institutions course. Students in this class are almost exclusively finance majors in their senior year.
According to Deb Murray, a lecturer in CBT, Munn will also meet with representatives of the Smart Money Week Advisory Group to discuss Smart Money Week and ways in which the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance could be involved. Additionally, faculty from the Departments of Accounting/Finance and Economics will discuss possible collaborations between the two departments and the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance.
On Tuesday (March 7), Dr. Michael Swanson, a senior economist and agricultural economist with Wells Fargo will give a seminar titled “The U.S. Economic Outlook.” His 8:30-9:30 a.m. presentation will take place in the Ockinga Seminar Center. Regional business persons, business students, and members of the economics, and accounting and finance faculty will attend the presentation.
As a Wells Fargo senior economist, Dr. Swanson is part of Wells Fargo’s macroeconomic team that analyzes and forecasts major developments in the U.S. and international economic arena. His primary areas of focus internationally are Australia, China and Canada, which are considered some of the most important players for the nation’s economic future. He also represents Wells Fargo as their agricultural economist. In that position, he works with a diverse set of agricultural producers and processors across the nation. His expertise is competitive strategy and risk management for a wide variety of crops and livestock.
His work experience covers most segments of the agricultural food chain, including transportation, grain trading and handling, food processing and marketing, and agricultural finance.
