KEARNEY – Money was always tight for Agustin Ruvalcaba when he was growing up. Coming from a lower-middle-class family in Shelby, Nebraska, he knew at a young age that scholarships would be necessary if he wanted to attend college. UNK academic scholarships valued at $18M given to incoming freshmen

KEARNEY – More than 1,050 University of Nebraska at Kearney academic merit scholarships have been granted to the 2019 graduating class from Nebraska high schools. The total value of the awards is nearly $18 million over four years. The total includes 243 Board of Regents scholarships. Among the most prestigious awards granted by the university, each full-tuition Board of Regents scholarship is valued at more than $26,000 over four years. Alumni Association, Foundation work together to support UNK; Endowment grows to $55M

UNK Alumni Patrick Carr, left, and Larry Edwards socialize at a UNK alumni event in Colorado. There are roughly 54,000 UNK graduates living across the globe, with about 70 percent of them residing in Nebraska. In Kearney, approximately 1 in 8 residents has a degree from UNK.

The University of Nebraska Foundation raised more than $9.5 million to support UNK during the last fiscal year, with 3,100-plus donors contributing. The foundation endowment for UNK has reached about $55 million.
