UNK closing Dec. 5 for National Day of Mourning of President George H.W. Bush

The University of Nebraska at Kearney will be closed and classes canceled Wednesday (Dec. 5) to observe the National Day of Mourning for President George H.W. Bush, as directed by University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds. UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen said all University of Nebraska campuses will implement the closing, following NU policy. All state buildings will be closed and state employees will be granted a day of leave. With the legislative session underway, Governor Ricketts last week announced proposed cuts to the state’s biennial budget, including reductions to the University of Nebraska. Under the Governor’s proposal, our funding for the current year would be reduced million, and next year’s appropriation would be cut million.
