Kearney Symphony Orchestra performing virtual holiday concert

KEARNEY – Kearney Symphony Orchestra will perform its “Holiday Kickoff Concert” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for an online audience. The concert, which features the orchestra’s brass and percussion, woodwind and string ensembles, will be livestreamed at unk.edu/music. It’s free and available to the public. There won’t be an in-person audience. The UNK Jazz/Rock Ensemble and Jazz Combo performed a two-part concert Thursday evening in the Fine Arts Building. Mick Johnson – UNK’s piano man – plays important part on campus

The vast majority of those pieces are tucked inside the cabinet, where a series of felt-covered hammers and tightly wound metal strings produce the instrument’s distinctive sound. More than 750 students from 101 high schools in Nebraska and Kansas participated in the annual Honor Band and Choral Clinic hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. Students worked with UNK faculty and guest instructors before performing two public concerts Monday evening at the Health and Sports Center. Katherine Shinn receives KUDOS award from NU Board of Regents

Katherine Shinn, office supervisor in the UNK Department of Music, Theatre and Dance, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDOS award on Thursday. KUDOS awards recognize university staff for their professional expertise, service and “superior dedication” to UNK and the University of Nebraska. It is the university’s top staff award. Shinn has been a member of the UNK staff since 2016.
