KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney Police Department is hosting a Cops and Robbers 5K Run/Walk to raise money for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and assault.

The event begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 21 at Cope Fountain on the UNK campus.

Runners and walkers can register in pairs – one cop and one robber – or as an individual and be paired with a cop or robber at the race. Robbers will start the race with a bag of loot. Cops will start shortly after and chase the robbers.

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes, and a prize will be awarded for best-dressed cop and robber.

The cost to participate is $25 for individuals and $40 for two-person teams. All runners who register prior to Oct. 16 receive a t-shirt, which can be picked up between 3 and 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the UNK Police Department, 2501 19th Ave. Shirts also can be picked up on race day.

All proceeds from the race benefit Family Advocacy Network.

Family Advocacy Network partners with law enforcement, Health and Human Services, county prosecutors and health care professionals to work with victims of abuse. It provides forensic interviews, medical exams and referral sources for adults and children who experience physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of abuse.
