KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney is hosting numerous events homecoming weekend to welcome international students and alumni.
The university’s International Alumni Reunion is Sept. 14-16 and features campus tours, classroom visits, picnics, tailgating and a celebration banquet.
“We look forward to welcoming international alumni back to campus for the first-ever international alumni reunion,” said Bonnie Payne, outreach coordinator in UNK’s Office of International Education.
The event kickoff is an 8 p.m. social Sept. 14 at Cunningham’s Journal in downtown Kearney.
A 5:30 p.m. barbecue at Welch Hall and 8 p.m. dance at Nicks on the Bricks in downtown Kearney are among Sept. 15 events, with an opportunity to attend the 11:30 a.m. Distinguished Alumni Awards also available that day.
The three-day celebration ends Sept. 16. Following that morning’s homecoming parade, tailgating and the Loper homecoming football game, a 6 p.m. social hour and banquet is at the Younes Conference Center.
“Some who are planning to attend graduated from UNK more than 30 years ago,” Payne said. “What a wonderful opportunity it will be for them to connect with fellow international alumni, and to see the tremendous progress on campus; progress in teaching and research space, technology, buildings and program offerings.
“It is our hope that the reunion will strengthen the connection they feel with UNK, and their awareness that as their university we are still here to serve them.”
