Fauneil Meier, executive assistant to the vice chancellor for business and finance, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDOS award Friday.

KUDOS awards recognize university staff for their professional expertise, service and “superior dedication” to UNK and University of Nebraska. It is the university’s top staff award.

Meier has been a member of the UNK staff since 1977, when she began her career in the Department of Speech Communications. For many years she worked in several campus offices, filling temporary positions when other assistant were on leave and other UNK vacancies.

She rejoined UNK fulltime in 1996 and was promoted to her current position in 2011.

“As a result of her professional journey, most everyone at UNK knows Fauneil, and they respect and enjoy her pleasant personality, work ethic and her sense of campus history,” read her nomination.

As executive assistant in business and finance, Meier is the initial face and voice of the division, managing contacts from both campus and off-campus constituencies.

In addition, she manages and prepares internal and external correspondence, monitors budgets, oversees the vice chancellor’s schedule, coordinates and prepares reports to the Board of Regents, and maintains an awareness of university procedures and activities.

In the last year she also assumed responsibilities associated with UNK’s University Village Board.

“She is consistently a consummate professional in all her interactions, and her knowledge base of the campus and the system have been invaluable,” said her nomination.

Meier served as vice president and secretary of Staff Senate, and she was twice named UNK Employee of the Month.

Meier was recognized and given the KUDOS award at the Board of Regents meeting, which was attended by UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen, Regent Kent Schroeder, NU President Hank Bounds, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Jane Sheldon, student Regent Evan Calhoun and her husband, Jim.
