KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney Iota Gamma Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha raised $3,000 at the 11th annual Kent Estes Memorial Golf Tournament.

All proceeds go to the Kent Estes Memorial Fund. The Estes family awards three annual scholarships — one to a student athlete, one to a student in the counseling and school psychology department, and one to an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

This year’s fraternity scholarship recipient was Brady Tolle of Milford, the current chapter president.

Kent Estes began teaching in 1975 at Kearney State College and served as chair for the counseling and school psychology department for more than 30 years. Estes battled leukemia throughout the later part of his life and died in 2005.

His sons – Erik, Aaron and Luke – attended UNK and were members of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

UNK’s chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has hosted the golf tournament in his memory since 2005. This year, 30 teams participated.

Proceeds from this year’s golf tournament will go to Pike member Kade Folchert of North Platte, who was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed earlier in the semester.
