Risebigs featured at Dec. 9 Kearney Symphony Orchestra holiday concert

KEARNEY – The Kearney Symphony Orchestra will present its holiday concert “Music of the Hearth and Spirit” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the UNK Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.

Guest artists Meribeth Risebig on oboe and Claudia Risebig on bassoon will present Baroque concertos by Vivaldi and Handel.

Meribeth Risebig is currently principal oboist for three Kansas City metro orchestras: the Liberty Symphony, Northland Symphony and St. Joseph Symphony, and plays regularly in the Starlight Theater Orchestra.

Claudi Risebig, principal bassoonist for the St. Joseph Symphony, has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, the former Kansas City Camerata, Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City and others.

The Kearney High School choir under the direction of Clayton Moyer and the Choraleers choir at UNK under the direction of David Bauer will sing Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass.”

Also on the program, former UNK student Katie Ridder and current student Grant Pyper will sing “La Ci Darem la Mano” and “Papageno, Papagena,” two duets from Mozart’s operas.

Holiday music will also include Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake,” “In the Bleak Midwinter,” “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Thunder and Lightning Polka.”
