Two Blue and Gold events moved due to severe weather potential

KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney is relocating two Blue and Gold Welcome Week events indoors on Friday due to the potential of severe weather moving into central Nebraska.

The Playfair event will begin at 8:45 p.m. at Cushing Coliseum. The Loper Rock the Night Dance at 10:15 p.m. has been moved to the Cushing HPER Gym.

Friday’s Blue and Gold Community Showcase and Chancellor’s Picnic planned for 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively, remain scheduled. If needed, UNK will make a decision on the status of those events by 2 p.m. Friday.

Severe thunderstorms are possible across central Nebraska and the Kearney area late Friday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. Storms could produce wind gusts to 60 miles per hour, isolated tornadoes and golf-ball sized hail, according to the weather service.

Blue and Gold Community Showcase is the annual welcome festival where more than 200 businesses and campus organizations set up booths. Live entertainment, food and product giveaways highlight the showcase.
