NEBRASKATS CONCERT SET FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 15

Dr. Andrew White
Nebraskats director, 308.865.8610

Medleys from three Broadway shows will be featured at the Nebraskats concert on Sunday, April 15, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The performance, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall, will be directed by Dr. Andrew White, UNK professor of music and performing arts. The performance is free and open to the public, although free-will donations will be accepted.

Selections from Broadway musicals “Wicked,” “Next to Normal” and “West Side Story” will be performed.

“These were chosen to highlight the talents of our musical theatre majors and others with a penchant for musical theatre,” Dr. White said.

The “Wicked” numbers were choreographed by Dillon Nelson, musical theatre major from Burwell; the “Next to Normal” numbers were choreographed by Addison Heeren; musical theatre major from Juniata; and “West Side Story” was choreographed by professional choreographer Elizabeth Hughey-White.

Members of the Nebraskats are selected through competitive auditions held in the spring.

The Nebraskats is comprised of 14 UNK student singers and a four-piece band. The group was founded in 1967 and is the longest running college-level show choir in Nebraska. Their repertoire includes a wide range of music ranging from jazz and musical theatre to rock, pop, oldie and contemporary. The group is choreographed by the students as well as professional choreographers.
