Discover the tales of foolishness and bravery of the six winter constellations during, “The Story of Winter,” being presented on Friday, Feb. 3, in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Bruner Hall of Science planetarium.

The show will be presented by Dr. Jose Mena-Werth, director of the UNK planetarium and professor of physics and physical science, in the fully accessible 60-seat public science theatre.

“The UNK planetarium is currently the most modern planetarium between Chicago and Phoenix,” Dr. Mena-Werth said. “Each of the 6,000 stars is individually projected on the dome with fiber-optic technology.”

The show is free and open to the public; however, any donation of dry or canned goods for the local food pantry will be accepted. Tickets will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. An encore show will begin at 8 p.m. if there is an overflow in attendance.

“Please join us for a bed-time story that has been firing our imagination for thousands of years,” Dr. Mena-Werth said.

Reservations are not available for public shows, and children must be five years of age or older to attend. Also, no food or drinks are allowed inside the planetarium. Once a show has begun, no one will be admitted to the planetarium, and anyone who leaves during a show will not be re-admitted.

“The Story of Winter” show will also be presented Friday, March 2, and Friday, April 6. The planetarium will also present “Night Sky Sampler” on Friday, Feb. 17; Friday, April 20; and Friday, May 11.

For more information, contact the UNK Department of Physics and Physical Science office at 308.865.8277, or visit the planetarium website at http://www.unk.edu/academics/physics/UNK_Planetarium/.
