Two University of Nebraska at Kearney visual communication and design majors are recipients of $2,000 American Advertising Federation (AFF) scholarships.

The two, Lacie Wiese of Doniphan and Amanda Olson of Stuart, were presented the scholarships at the AFF monthly educational/professional development luncheon “AdBites” held at the Regency Park Lodge in Omaha in June.

Wiese was one of seven UNK students to receive a 2011 Brass Ring Award this spring. Her “Vertigo” movie poster was a winning entry. The Brass Ring Awards competition is a national design competition in which more than 2,000 university and high school students entered. She also received a gold award in the Nebraska ADDY competition for her poster “One Nation, Under God.” Wiese is a Dean’s List student.

Olson, a member of the UNK Honors Students Advisory Board, published the new Honors electronic newsletter for the Honors Program website. She also created the website for the UNK chapter of Mortar Board, served as Mortar Board director of communications and is a member of UNK AIGA and Alpha Omicron Pi social sorority. Olson is currently a summer intern for Sandhills Publishing in Lincoln as a graphic artist.

The scholarships are to be applied to tuition costs for the 2011-2012 academic year.
