STUDENT ART SOCIETY JURIED EXHIBITION AWARDS ANNOUNCED AT UNK

Awards have been announced for students’ artwork at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Student Art Society Juried Exhibition.

The  exhibition is jointly sponsored by the UNK Student Art Society and the Walker Art Gallery. All the artwork is on display in the UNK Walker Art Gallery now through Friday, March 18. Works in the following media are on exhibit: printmaking, photography, drawing, sculpture, glass, painting, ceramics and graphic design.

Earning The Best of Show award was Jeremy Eggleston of Loup City for his painting titled “Complexity Theory.” Eggleston also received the Best Painting award for “Thomas Young.”

Thomas Dircksen of Kearney earned First Place and Best Sculpture for an untitled sculpture. Second Place and Best Ceramic were presented to Shilo Parker of Kearney for his ceramics creation, “Horsehair Raku,” and Sarah Epping ofHoldrege took third place overall for her print, “The Window,” which also earned Best Print.

Braeden Tyma of Grand Island earned Best Photo for his photo titled, “Enlightenment,” while Taylor Moore of Kearneywas awarded Best Glass for “Etched Fractal Bowl.” Daniel Dunbar of Wahoo took the award for Best Graphic for “My Sister in this House,” and Jennifer Green of Moberly, Mo. received Best Drawing for “Maki’s Grief.”

The exhibition was juried by Katrina Florell, a graduate student at Fort Hays (Kansas) State University. Florell holds a bachelor of fine arts with an emphasis in ceramics and painting, and a minor in art history, as well as a bachelor of arts in art education, K-12 from UNK.

As a UNK student, Florell received Best in Show at the 2009 UNK annual undergraduate student art exhibition and was named Outstanding Senior Student by the UNK Department of Art and Art History in 2008.
