UNK– Marigold muffins could be one of the many things served at the 18th annual Edible Flowers Tea which will be hosted at the Frank House on the University of Nebraska at Kearney West Campus at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27.

The event includes a demonstration, tea tasting, recipe booklet, and tours of the Frank House and surrounding gardens.

Carol Schwartz, extension educator from the Buffalo County Extension Office, will demonstrate ways to incorporate edible flowers into every day meals. Schwartz will also talk about identifying which flowers are safe to eat.

A few of the edible flowers that will be on the menu that day include lavender, roses, day lilies and marigolds.

“My favorite flower recipes are lavender and rose petal angel food cake, and lavender ice cream, of course,” said Gloria LeDroit, Frank House Friends member.

“We host the event, so people know that not only do flowers have a great color and smell, but they are also good for your body,” LeDroit said.

Event tickets are $15 and may be purchased from Gloria LeDroit at 308.234.9812. Proceeds go to the Frank House at UNK. Only 36 tickets will be available for the event and are going quickly, according to LeDroit.
