Janet Wilke, associate dean of Calvin T. Ryan Library at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, has been named interim dean.

In making the announcement today, Dr. Finnie Murray, UNK senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Life, said: “I have asked Ms. Janet Wilke to serve as interim dean of the Calvin T. Ryan Library until the position has been filled. She has already begun her new duties, and we will initiate a search to fill the dean position as promptly as possible.’

The resignation of Dr. Larry Hardesty, the former dean of the library, was announced last week by UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen. At that time, Wilke was named to head the library operations on a temporary basis.

“I want to take this opportunity to most sincerely and publicly thank Dr. Hardesty for his many positive contributions the library and to UNK, and to wish him well in his future pursuits,” Dr. Murray said. “We will benefit from his innovative work here for years to come.”

“I also want to thank Janet for her willingness to step into this important position,” he said. “I look forward to working with her.”

Wilke has previously headed the library on an interim basis.
