The Nebraskats, under the direction of Eileen Jahn, will give the opening performance for the University of Nebraska at Kearney annual Open House Saturday, Feb. 25, from noon to 12:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.

In addition to performances by the Nebraskats, and other groups and soloists, there will be a music Quiz Bowl in the Fine Arts Choir Room from 12:30-1:30 p.m., just before the departmental recital, which begins at 1:45 p.m. in the Choir Room. From 3 – 4 p.m., the Symphonic Band will perform in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. All performances and activities are free and open to the public.

The Quiz Bowl is a game-show competition composed of teams of UNK music students. Questions are based on music theory, ear training, music history, music pop culture and other music trivia. Four teams of five are competing this year. The winning team will receive $250 ($50 per person) in scholarship money to put towards their music degree.

The Open House is a service project to the music department organized by the UNK chapter of Collegiate National Association for Music Education (MENC).

This is the seventh year MENC has sponsored the event.
