Professor and dean emeritus of Montclair State University, Dr. Nick Mitchelli, is the keynote speaker for the NCATE celebration in Copeland Hall Room 142 at 3:30 p.m. today (Monday, March 21,) at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Dr. Mitchelli is Presidential Professor in the University’s Ph.D. program in Urban Education University, Dean for Teacher Education for the City University of New York, and author and co-author of many works discussing various aspects of teacher education. His responsibilities include overseeing the education of educators at the nation’s largest public urban university, and coordination among the University, the New York City Public Schools, and cultural institutions of New York City.

Dr. Mitchelli is a member of the New York State Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching, New York’s Practitioner’s Committee for the implementation of No Child Left Behind and a chaired the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education’s Committee for eight years. He also meets regularly with members of Congress on education policy issues.

An immediate past chair, Dr. Mitchelli served on the Governing Council of the National Network for Educational Renewal founded by John Goodlad.  He also serves on the Teacher Education Committee of the National Academy of Education.Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Mitchelli was the 1996 recipient of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education’s Edward C. Pomeroy Award for his contributions to teacher education.
