Native American Heritage Month Celebrated

The University of Nebraska at Kearney Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Student Kouncil of Intertribal Nations (SKINS) are sponsoring events for Native American Heritage Month beginning with “Tuesday with…Corrie Necklace: Native American Women” on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 12:15 p.m. in the Cedar Room in the Nebraskan Student Union.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, Mr. Frank LaMere will be speaking at 7:00 p.m. in room 238 in the Nebraskan Student Union. LaMere is a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. He is a well-known social and political activist, and has been recognized for his tireless efforts to empower Native people and others by building bridges and fostering understanding. LaMere was named the 2001 Peacemaker of the Year by the Nebraskans for Peace for his work on the White Clay issue.

On Thursday, Nov. 21, SKINS is hosting a Taco Feed open to UNK students from 11:30-1:00 p.m. in Mantor Hall for $2 a taco or goodwill donation. Also, “Lakota Woman: Siege at Wounded Knee” will be presented at 7:00 p.m. in Copeland Hall room 133.
All the events are open to the UNK campus and Kearney community.
