UNK Honors Recital

The Music and Performing Arts Department of the University of Nebraska at Kearney will present the fall term Honors Recital on Sunday, December 9 at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building Recital Hall. The program will feature music students (vocalists, instrumentalists and pianists), especially selected for this event.

Adam Jaworski, a 1998 graduate of Adams Central High School in Hastings, will perform Alexandre Guilmant’s Morceau Symphonique on the euphonium. Adam is majoring in Music Education and plays the tuba in the Symphonic Band, pep band, and brass quintet.

Sydney Brooke Fisher, a junior from Littleton, Colorado, will sing two songs from The Scarlet Pimpernel by Frank Wildhorn. Sydney is a double major in Music Theater and Spanish. She has performed many times at UNK, including the productions of Cabaret and The Tender Land.

Brian Chilcott, originally from Ogallala, received a BS in Biology in 1999, with minors in Music and English. He is currently completing a Master of Science degree in Biology. A flute student of Franziska Nabb since 1995, he will perform J.S. Bach’s Sonata in E minor.

Sarah Ponder, a junior Vocal Performance major form Columbus, will be singing Charles Gounod’s ‘Faite lui mes aveux’ from the opera Faust. Sarah recently won 1st and 4th place at the State and Regional National Association of Teachers of Singing competitions.

Brenda Tincher is a senior Piano Performance and Pedagogy major from Potter. She has participated in the UNK Honors Program, the UNK Undergraduate Research Journal and many UNK ensembles. She will perform two piano works by twentieth century Russian composers Alexander Scriabin and Sergei Prokofiev.

Michael McNeil, from Almena, Kansas, is a tenor majoring in Vocal Performance at UNK and has studied with Pina Mozzani for the past three years. He will perform Sogno (Dream) by nineteenth century composer Francesco Paolo Tosti.

Michael Epping, Jr. is a senior from Hershey pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance. He was a winner in the 2001 Concerto Aria Contest at UNK. A saxophone student of David Nabb, he will be performing Fantasia by Heitor Villa Lobos on the soprano saxophone.

J. Martin Garringer, from Kearney, is a senior majoring in Music Education, with organ as his primary performing medium. Martin is frequently heard playing in many area churches and accompanying students at UNK. He will be performing 20th century American composer Charles Ives’ Variations on ‘America’.
