A reception in honor of Phyllis Roberts and Don Welch will be held on Friday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The reception will be held in the area between Thomas Hall and the Calvin T. Ryan Library, near the life-size statues of the two former UNK teachers.

The life-size statue of Roberts was dedicated in May of 2000. It was a gift of one of her former students, Paul Wagner, class of 1958. Roberts resides in Kearney. She taught English, French and speech from 1947 to 1975 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

To commemorate the 40 years of dedicated teaching and service at UNK by Don Welch, family, friends and faculty members commissioned a statue that was dedicated in June of this year. Dr. Welch, a 1954 UNK graduate, was an English professor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney from 1959 to 1997.

In case of inclement weather, the reception will be held at the UNK Alumni House.
